Many books on Taekwon-Do have been produced by instructors and masters of different levels for general reference. However, until this book was written, there has been nothing written specifically to equip Taekwon-Do students for their belt promotion test. For this reason, Master Leong wrote this textbook to help all students to prepare them stage by stage for their tests.
The book aims to provide in a standard format the various aspects of the art that need to be covered, grade by grade. As such it will also be useful as a guide for the reference of instructors.
The book covers all the required hand and foot techniques, gymnastics, stances, 1-step, 2-step and 3-step sparring, self-defense techniques, conditioning, forms, Korean terminology and theory, as well as giving personal advice from the master -- all presented systematically.
Master Leong Wai Meng wrote:
"When the result of a belt promotion test is announced, the student should not be too pleased or proud if he scores good grades or receives a double promotion. By the same token, he should not feel too disappointed if he fails or gets poor grades, but rather he should consider this to be a test of his perseverance. A good student learns not to be affected by his results. He should be happy in knowing that he has done his best and is honest in his efforts. This is a difficult thing to learn at the beginning of one's training in martial arts, but if he perseveres in this even-minded attitude, he will definitely end up as the model martial artist eventually.
The greatest test you will face is in how you conduct yourself outside the do jang. Your friends and family will judge you, your instructor and your art from what they see in you. We martial artists should always try our best to lead upright lives because ultimately the public judges us and our art by our doings in the world. "
